Come and join The Belkans' birthday party!
THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF OUR BELOVED REGION
17 OCTOBER 2025 17 OCTOBER 2026
One Year of Loodmudslavs, Sandwiches, Friendship, Regional Development, and Belkan History
HONOR STABILITY COOPERATION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY, BELKA!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Dear citizens, friends, regional representatives, ambassadors, and fellow members of the NationStates community,
Today, October 17, 2026, is a very special day.
Exactly one year ago, on October 17, 2025, a region known as The Belkans was founded on NationStates.
At the time, it was simply another small regional project among thousands of communities scattered throughout the game.
However, to those who would come to call it home, The Belkans would become something far more meaningful.
It became a place for friendship, creativity, roleplay, regional identity, diplomacy, and the occasional ridiculous sandwich-related tradition.
For an entire year, our region has continued its journey through NationStates.
We have witnessed periods of activity, moments of inactivity, administrative developments, diplomatic relationships, and changes that have shaped our community.
Not everything has been perfect.
Not every idea succeeded.
Not every day was particularly exciting.
But through it all, The Belkans has continued to exist.
And that is precisely why today deserves to be celebrated.
ONE ENTIRE YEAR OF THE BELKANS!
This anniversary is not simply about the passage of 365 days.
It is about celebrating the history we have created, the friendships we have established, and the unique identity that makes our region different from so many others.
The Belkans has always been a region with its own personality.
We are not simply another political organization attempting to become the largest or most influential community in NationStates.
We are a region with our own humor, culture, traditions, and interests.
Our beloved regional description, "Land of the Loodmudslavs and Sandwiches," is perhaps the greatest example of this identity.
To outsiders, the phrase may appear rather unusual.
What exactly is a Loodmudslav?
Why are sandwiches so important?
Why does a region celebrate its anniversary by distributing horseradish to foreign diplomats?
These are questions that visitors may reasonably ask.
And yet, these peculiarities are precisely what make The Belkans memorable.
Our community embraces its individuality.
We do not need to imitate the traditions of every other region.
We do not need to become excessively serious to demonstrate that we possess a meaningful regional identity.
We can appreciate diplomacy, regional development, and cooperation while still enjoying our own sense of humor.
The Belkans is a place where creativity and friendship matter.
And after one entire year, we are proud to continue carrying that identity forward.
The founding of The Belkans on October 17, 2025, marked the beginning of a new regional chapter.
Over the following twelve months, our community gradually developed its own traditions, administrative structures, diplomatic connections, and creative activities.
As with any developing NationStates region, there have been both successful moments and difficult periods.
We have experienced changes in participation, shifts in activity, and the ordinary challenges that accompany the maintenance of a regional community.
However, regional success should never be measured exclusively through population numbers.
A region is more than a collection of nations on a webpage.
It is a community shaped by the people who participate in it.
Every message, every roleplay, every conversation, every creative contribution, and every diplomatic exchange becomes part of its history.
The Belkans has spent its first year developing an identity of its own.
And although our history may still be relatively young compared with older NationStates regions, that does not make it any less meaningful.
Today, we celebrate the beginning of that history.
We also recognize that our second year presents new opportunities to continue building upon what has already been established.
As we celebrate this anniversary, I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who has been part of The Belkans.
When this region was founded, it was impossible to predict exactly what would happen over the following year.
There were ideas to explore, traditions to establish, and countless possibilities for the future.
Some things changed along the way.
Some projects developed differently than expected.
There were quiet periods, moments of uncertainty, and occasions when regional activity was not particularly impressive.
But The Belkans remained a region that I could call my own creation.
A place with its own identity.
A place with its own history.
A place where the Loodmudslavs and their friends could gather.
And now, one year later, I am proud to celebrate its first birthday.
To everyone who has supported this region, participated in its activities, or maintained friendly relations with us:
Thank you for being part of our first year.
Whether you have been involved since the beginning or only recently became acquainted with The Belkans, your presence is appreciated.
Our first anniversary represents an opportunity to remember the past while looking forward to the future.
And I sincerely hope that this will be only the first of many anniversaries.
The Belkans recognizes the importance of friendship and cooperation throughout the NationStates community.
Our region has maintained connections with other communities through diplomacy, embassies, alliances, and personal friendships.
We extend our gratitude to our sister regions, friends, and diplomatic partners.
Among those we recognize are:
The Mood
Grand Duchy of Foxf
The Sliver Coast
The Grand Duchy of Kebetia
We also recognize our friends and partners within The Crown Alliance.
We are grateful to those who have maintained friendly relations with The Belkans throughout its first year.
Diplomatic relationships are not simply decorations for a regional factbook.
They represent communication, mutual respect, and opportunities for cooperation between communities.
Our anniversary is therefore not intended to be an exclusively domestic celebration.
We wish to share this occasion with the friends and partners who have contributed to our wider regional experience.
HOST: THE BELKANS
LOCATION: DRITENIA
DATE: OCTOBER 17, 2026
OCCASION: THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE BELKANS
To commemorate this historic occasion, The Belkans proudly announces a special anniversary celebration to be held in Dritenia.
All friendly regions throughout NationStates are invited to attend!
We warmly welcome visiting ambassadors, delegates, regional leaders, government representatives, and ordinary citizens who wish to participate in the festivities.
This event is intended to celebrate one year of Belkan history while encouraging friendship and cooperation among participating communities.
Visitors are invited to enjoy a festive atmosphere filled with regional cuisine, celebratory activities, diplomatic conversations, and commemorative gifts.
Dritenia shall serve as the center of our first-anniversary celebrations.
For this special occasion, the region will welcome guests from across NationStates to share in our traditions and enjoy the hospitality of The Belkans.
Whether your region has maintained diplomatic relations with us for months or is visiting for the very first time, we welcome your participation.
No elaborate diplomatic ceremony is necessary to enjoy the occasion.
Come celebrate with us!
Share a meal!
Exchange greetings!
Enjoy the birthday festivities!
And most importantly, help us celebrate the first anniversary of our beloved Belka!
No proper Belkan anniversary would be complete without a substantial amount of food.
And considering that our region is literally associated with sandwiches, it would be rather embarrassing to organize a birthday celebration without them.
Therefore, The Belkans is delighted to present a special anniversary banquet for all visiting delegations.
The banquet shall feature a selection of Balkan specialties, Dritenian dishes, regional contributions, and other celebratory foods.
Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of meals representing the culinary traditions of our community and its friends.
1. BELKAN SANDWICHES AND BOTTLED HORSERADISH
Naturally, sandwiches shall occupy a place of honor at the anniversary banquet.
Guests will receive freshly prepared sandwiches accompanied by a separate bottle of horseradish.
The horseradish is not already placed on the sandwiches.
Instead, visitors may add as much or as little horseradish as they prefer.
This allows every guest to customize their sandwich according to their own tastes.
Those who enjoy a strong horseradish flavor may apply a generous amount.
Those who prefer a milder sandwich may use considerably less.
The choice belongs entirely to the guest.
2. ARBY'S GREEK GYROS FROM SAINT GREEKO ISLANDS
One of the most memorable regional contributions to the celebration shall be the famous Arby's Greek gyros associated with Saint Greeko Islands.
These delicious gyros shall be included among the anniversary foods offered to visiting delegations.
Featuring their familiar combination of seasoned meat, vegetables, and creamy tzatziki sauce, these gyros provide a welcome addition to the banquet.
The inclusion of Saint Greeko Islands' Arby's Greek gyros also celebrates the diverse and sometimes wonderfully unusual culinary traditions found throughout our regional world.
3. TRADITIONAL ĆEVAPI
No Balkan-inspired celebration would be complete without ćevapi.
Guests shall be offered plates of grilled ćevapi, served with traditional accompaniments such as flatbread, chopped onions, and ajvar.
This beloved Balkan dish represents an important part of the culinary heritage that inspires our regional identity.
Whether enjoyed as a full meal or as part of the larger anniversary banquet, ćevapi shall be among the principal dishes offered to our guests.
4. BUREK AND OTHER BALKAN PASTRIES
A variety of savory pastries shall be available for visitors.
These include burek and other regional pastry specialties featuring fillings such as meat, cheese, and vegetables.
Warm pastries shall be served throughout the celebration, allowing visitors to experience another familiar element of Balkan cuisine.
5. SARMA
Traditional stuffed cabbage rolls shall also be offered as part of the banquet.
Prepared with savory fillings and served as a hearty dish, sarma represents another recognizable part of Balkan culinary tradition.
6. PLJESKAVICA
Guests seeking an additional grilled specialty may enjoy pljeskavica, a popular Balkan meat dish commonly served with bread and assorted accompaniments.
This dish shall complement the ćevapi and other grilled foods available during the festivities.
7. AJVAR AND REGIONAL CONDIMENTS
A selection of condiments and accompaniments shall be available to enhance the anniversary meals.
These shall include ajvar, kajmak, and other familiar Balkan additions.
Naturally, the famous Belkan bottled horseradish shall remain available for those wishing to add it to their sandwiches.
8. DRITENIAN REGIONAL CUISINE
As the host location of the anniversary celebration, Dritenia shall also contribute a selection of its own regional foods.
These dishes shall represent the local culinary traditions and hospitality of Dritenia.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the Dritenian offerings alongside the wider selection of Balkan and Belkan cuisine.
The inclusion of Dritenian foods is particularly appropriate, as Dritenia is hosting the anniversary festivities.
9. BALKAN DESSERTS
The celebration shall also include a selection of sweet treats.
Among the desserts offered may be baklava, tulumba, and other sweets associated with Balkan culinary traditions.
These desserts shall provide a fitting conclusion to the savory portion of the banquet.
10. THE OFFICIAL BELKAN BIRTHDAY CAKE
Finally, no birthday celebration would be complete without a cake!
A special anniversary birthday cake shall be prepared in honor of The Belkans' first year.
The cake shall commemorate the founding of our region on October 17, 2025.
It shall serve as the centerpiece of the anniversary festivities and a symbol of our appreciation for everyone who has contributed to our first year.
As a gesture of hospitality and friendship, The Belkans is pleased to announce that visiting regional delegations may receive special commemorative gifts upon attending the festivities in Dritenia.
These gifts are intended to celebrate our first anniversary and express our appreciation for the regions that have chosen to participate.
Each visiting region may be presented with:
One bottle of horseradish, intended to accompany the sandwiches provided during the celebration.
A selection of Belkan sandwiches, prepared separately so that guests may apply their own horseradish.
Arby's Greek gyros from Saint Greeko Islands, included as a special regional culinary contribution.
A plate of traditional ćevapi, accompanied by bread and suitable condiments.
A selection of Balkan foods, including burek, sarma, pljeskavica, and other regional specialties.
A selection of Dritenian foods, representing the culinary traditions of our host location.
Traditional Balkan desserts, offered as part of the anniversary celebration.
One commemorative birthday cake, celebrating the first anniversary of The Belkans.
A special Belkan anniversary greeting, presented as a symbol of friendship and goodwill.
These gifts are intended as tokens of appreciation rather than political favors.
No visiting region is expected to enter into an alliance, establish an embassy, or undertake any diplomatic obligation in exchange for participating.
The purpose of the anniversary is simple:
To celebrate our region, welcome our friends, and share our hospitality.
We hope that every delegation will depart Dritenia with pleasant memories and an appreciation for Belkan traditions.
And perhaps with enough food to last them several days.
The first anniversary of The Belkans is intended to be a joyful occasion.
We do not wish for the celebration to become an exercise in political competition, unnecessary rivalries, or disputes between communities.
Instead, we hope that visiting regions will take the opportunity to interact peacefully, exchange greetings, and enjoy the festivities.
The Belkans welcomes the participation of friendly regions regardless of their size or international influence.
A small region deserves the same hospitality as a large one.
A newly founded community deserves the same respect as a long-established one.
Every visitor who arrives in a spirit of friendship is welcome to join our celebration.
The anniversary banquet provides an opportunity for delegates to enjoy food, conversation, and cultural exchanges in a relaxed environment.
After all, there are few better ways to celebrate friendship than by sharing a meal.
Especially when that meal involves ćevapi, gyros, birthday cake, and an unusually large amount of horseradish.
As we celebrate our anniversary, we must remember that the history of The Belkans was not created by a single day or a single event.
It was shaped by the contributions of those who participated throughout the year.
Every member who joined our region became part of its story.
Every conversation contributed to its community atmosphere.
Every creative project added something to its identity.
Every diplomatic relationship created another connection with the wider world of NationStates.
To those who helped develop our regional institutions, traditions, and activities, we extend our sincere appreciation.
To those who maintained friendships with The Belkans, we express our gratitude.
To those who visited our community, participated in our roleplay, or simply offered their support, we thank you.
The first anniversary belongs to everyone who has contributed to the existence and development of our region.
We hope that our future anniversaries will provide further opportunities to recognize these contributions.
With the completion of our first year, The Belkans now enters a new chapter.
Our second year presents opportunities for further development, renewed activity, and the continuation of our traditions.
We hope to strengthen our community and encourage further participation in regional affairs.
We hope to maintain our existing diplomatic relationships while welcoming new friendships.
We hope to continue developing our creative projects and preserving the distinctive atmosphere of The Belkans.
Most importantly, we hope that our region will remain a place where people can enjoy themselves and feel welcome.
The future will undoubtedly bring new challenges.
There may be quiet periods.
There may be disagreements.
There may be unexpected changes.
But these are ordinary aspects of community life.
What matters is our willingness to continue building upon the foundations established during our first year.
The Belkans has completed its first chapter.
Now, it is time to begin writing the second.
On this seventeenth day of October, two thousand and twenty-six, we proudly commemorate the first anniversary of The Belkans.
We celebrate the founding of our region.
We honor the contributions of our community.
We recognize the friendships that have accompanied our journey.
We welcome the representatives of other regions to our anniversary festivities in Dritenia.
And we look toward the future with hope, enthusiasm, and determination.
May our community continue to prosper.
May our traditions continue to flourish.
May our friendships endure.
May our diplomatic relationships remain strong.
May our second year bring new opportunities and memorable experiences.
And may the great Belkan tradition of sandwiches continue for many years to come!
